CLOWN PLAY is a two day clown workshop presented by Fiona Ferrier and Rachel Colles from Dirliebane Theatre Company, and in collaboration with Perth Theatre.

Clown Play is open to performers, artists and workshop facilitators as part of their ongoing personal, professional and/or creative development.

The workshops are led by the Artistic Directors of Dirliebane Theatre Company, Fiona Ferrier and Rachel Colles. They are professional character clowns and have been devising and performing clown theatre with Dirliebane Theatre Company since 2016. They are also Clowndoctors and Elderflowers with Hearts & Minds and were previously Artistic Leads, training a new cohort of clowndoctors in 2023. Fiona and Rachel are passionate about clowning, working in duos and using clown to establish strong connections with audiences.

Workshop: in person and for people with performance experience who want to explore/further explore theatre clown.
Dates: Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May 2025
Times: 10am to 5pm
Location: The Space, Perth Theatre
Cost: £102.50 (inc. £2.50 booking fee) for 2 days

Dirliebane acknowledges the current lack of diversity within clowning in Scotland and we particularly welcome applications from performers who identify as being of the global majority, disabled, neurodivergent, or any combination of these. We are happy to facilitate access needs for participants, and we encourage applicants to bring them to our attention so that we can support them to the best of our abilities. We can provide a BSL interpreter at the workshop if requested. We will reserve two places for diverse groups.

Dirliebane Theatre Company creates clown theatre performances for children, young people and their families, using character clowning that creates naïve, optimistic, light and fun characters. Since 2016 Dirliebane has toured schools and venues with their clown shows Big, Space, Bounce and The Cinnamon Sisters, researched Virtual Reality theatre for children and young people and created clown films curing Covid. Dirliebane recently performed The Cinnamon Sisters at Perth Theatre in December 2024. Dirliebane is performing BOUNCE at Perth Theatre on 22 March 2025. Dirliebane, in collaboration with Starcatchers, will be touring Laaaunch!, a clown show for babies under 12 months, in the Autumn of 2025.
PTCH (Perth Theatre & Concert Hall) is committed to supporting the artist community so are delighted to be working with Dirliebane over the next 12 months, not only to provide development opportunities for local artists but to further increase our engagement for the 0-5 age group and their parents/carers.
