William Soutar was born in Perth in 1898 and educated at Perth Academy and Edinburgh University. He served in the Royal Navy during WW1 where he fell ill with spondylitis, and later became housebound. Today we celebrate his poetry, written in both English and Scots.

Born in Kyle: written in Scots and full of great stories, Billy Kay goes back to his own linguistic and cultural roots and celebrates a sense of place and belonging in his native Galston in Ayrshire’s Irvine Valley.
